Jackson Pollock’s Mural to show at the Getty

Jackson Pollock, Mural, 1943, 8 X 20 feet (photo: University of Iowa Museum of Art, #1959.6)Almost two years ago, the University of Iowa Museum of Art sent Jackson Pollock’s Mural (1943) — a large 8 x 20 foot canvas — to the Getty for technical study and conservation. This extensive study has yielded “much new and significant information about the painting and its role in a transitional moment in Pollock’s career,” including information concerning the myth that Pollock painted most of it in a frenzied, 24-hour session. Now completed, the work will be on view at the Getty Museum for a limited time (March 11 – June 1, 2014).
